Daimler Truck celebrated 3 billion kilometres of Australian Euro 6 at the Brisbane Truck Show.
While some manufacturers are now preparing to introduce Euro 6 compliant vehicles, Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso customers have notched up a combined 3 billion km with Euro 6 (or equivalent) drivetrains on Australian roads since 2016.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, says Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso customers are in a good position ahead of the ADR 80/04 introduction, which mandates new trucks meet Euro 6, or equivalent, emission standards.
“Our Euro 6 emissions leadership starting eight years ago is now delivering the advantage of experience for our Australian customers. It means Daimler Truck customers can work easy knowing nothing will change in November,” says Mr Whitehead.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific Vice President Sales, Marketing and Operations, Andrew Assimo says: “There’ll be no surprises for Daimler Truck customers when the new ADR kicks in this November.”
“Our customers have billions of local kilometres under their belts with Euro 6, proving our trucks emit less and use less fuel than previous models,” he adds.
The ADR 80/04 rule requires engines meet either Euro 6 standards or US emission standards from 2013 onwards or Japanese emission standards from 2017 onwards.
To meet Euro 6 emission standards, truck engines must produce 70 per cent less hydrocarbons and 77-80 per cent less oxides of nitrogen (NOx), as well as 50-66 per cent smaller particulates than Euro 5 engines.
Mercedes-Benz became the first manufacturer to offer a complete range of Euro 6 heavy duty trucks in Australia with the new generation Actros in 2016.
Freightliner introduced the all-new Cascadia in 2019, becoming the first bonneted truck to meet the yet to be introduced ADR 80/04 emission standards with its DD13 and DD16 engines.
The same year saw Fuso introduce an all-new Shogun heavy duty truck range that would meet ADR 80/04, and the Fighter Euro 6 followed in 2021.
Fuso introduced the 3.0-litre 4P10 engine with Euro 6 specification in the Rosa bus back in 2020. Later this year, the same Euro 6 engine will be introduced for the Canter truck range, giving customers confidence that they can get the job done while producing less emissions.
For customers who want to further continue their sustainability journey, Daimler Truck has also introduced fully electric Mercedes-Benz and Fuso models.
Fuso became the first manufacturer to introduce an electric production truck in Australia with the eCanter in 2021. It has now introduced a new-generation eCanter with upgraded safety, new technology and improved range, which is available in 14 variants.
Last year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the eActros and eEconic heavy duty electric trucks featuring class-leading technology - as well as workhorse practicality.
